Second Semester is flying by!

Second semester is flying by! It seems like we just began and now it is time for mid-terms and spring break. While it would have been easy to say that having made it through my first semester of college I am now fully equipped and ready for all that college brings my way but that would not be a completely true statement. I thought I had built the perfect schedule for second semester. I am heavy with Monday, Wednesday, and Friday classes and light on Tuesday and Thursday (only lab). This was going to be a dream. Wrong again…. I never stopped to really think about all my papers and tests were going to fall on the same day or that I would have to hustle to get to my Bio class all the way across campus and never get a good seat. Those are things I will take into consideration next time I schedule my courses. I am really having to read ahead and pace myself in writing my papers. If I don’t I will certainly find myself in a great big tangled mess.

First Semester is Over!

I completed all my exams today! It is a great feeling! Now I am going to sleep, eat, and visit with friends. It will certainly be nice not to have to get up for an 8 o’clock class every morning. I will say that the one goood thing about having an 8 o’clock class everyday is it sure helps you get the good parking spaces!

It is still difficult for me to believe that November is already here. For me, the first semester of college has been in a fast forward motion. Everyday I have papers to write, notes to study, projects to complete, group assignments to plan, and of course, new friends to chat with. There is never a dull or slow moment. Actually…I would not want it any other way. I must admit that it is important to stay current with all assignments. Falling behind would really present a challenge to get caught back up with 15 hours of classes.
As the weather has cooled off and the days of rainy dampness have increased, I am feeling more at home on campus. Now I am definitely not saying that I enjoy walking across campus in a steady downpour of rain from the Trahern building to Ellington but, I have learned the quickest way to walk that route and to always have an umbrella tucked inside my book bag! A wet school day will never be on top of my favorites list but Austin Peay does look great in autumn colors. I think the golds, oranges, and reds of the trees all around downtown Clarksville are so pretty. I have also loved the football games! There is so much excitement before and during the games that everyone should go!

The Mud Bowl

“The Mud Bowl”

Wow! I had been listening to guys and gals talk about it all week but I had no idea how much fun it was going to be!
Imagine a volleyball court surrounded with bales of straw. Inside the bales there is a court of thick, slippery, sloshy mud with volleyball net suspended in mid-air over the imaginary half court. The games began around 7:00 with the boy’s teams playing each other and the girl’s teams doing the same. The stakes were great! Bragging rights! I estimate there were at least 400 students gathered around the outside of the courts cheering and laughing. When it was time for my team to play I climbed into the court and knew that it was going to be crazy! I couldn’t run for the ball-my feet were stuck in the mud! Forward fall! I couldn’t stretch for the ball-the mud is so slippery I fell the second my balance changed. Side fall! But with all this I had to keep doing what I could to help my team win. We did win the first game! Yeah! But then we had to stand and wait for the next one and then the one following that! All the while we are hugging each other to spread the “mud love”. The dry mud caked on us more with every match and weighted us down. It was great to be there both as a spectator and as a participant! I am still washing clothes but it was more that worth it! Kaley

Rush Week!

Rush Week 2007!
For those of you who are curious about Rush Week I want to say that it is so much fun and it will help you to meet many new friends. While the introductory meeting with the Panhellenic Council members is a little confusing and slow-paced, it is formatted to be for information and not necessarily for fun. But, if you have not made up your mind, (I had) to go through Rush by the time you attend this meeting, I am not sure that it would help persuade you to do so. But remember-once this meeting is over and the open houses begin you will get a feel for Greek life and what it is all about. The Open house parties are great! I had an opportunity to meet all the active members in each of the three groups. They talk freely about being members and why they enjoy it. The following three nights of parties are set up to inform the girls going through rush about the differences and similarities of the sororities at APSU.
The three parties are philanthropy night-an overview of the philanthropic choices each organization supports, theme night- where every group prepares a skit and decorates according to a theme they select and preference night-the final evening where each girl has time to talk with many of the active girls so that she can determine the sorority that is the best fit. It is difficult to decide what is best for yourself. There are so many great girls in all the sororities but it is clear that each one has its own “style and personality”. I made so many new friends and now have approximately 80 new friends at the Peay! I am now a Chi Omega pledge and you may see me on campus wearing our colors red and yellow. For getting involved and meeting new people I say, GO GREEK! It’s a good experience! Kaley

Getting to Know Me

Hi! This is Kaley and I am going to be “blogging” here on line this year. First a brief introduction. I am a first semester freshman and I am eighteen years old. While I did grown up in Clarksville, I have spent several summers in other places such as Savannah, Georgia, Newport, Rhode Island, and Fort Rucker, Alabama because my father is in the military. I attended the same school from PK-12 grade. I play golf (notice I didn’t say I was good at it) but I would not call me an athletic person. I like to read, travel, and eat at great restaurants.

I am enjoying APSU. I have met so new friends and like the fact that I am getting to know new people every day. My classes have been interesting so far. I am amazed at the range of ages and life styles of people in my class…more on that later. As of today, I would list my freshman English class as my favorite. My professor is really personable and easy to talk to. Our writing assignments have been over topics that have been interesting to work with. My APSU1000 group is the best. Some of my favorite new friends are in there and we have the best times together eating lunch or whatever.

I just completed rush week and will write later about that fun experience. Hope you have a good week! Kaley
